Milo has a piggy bank...sorta. I received one for a baby shower and it is a really nice one. It is ceramic and super cute and for sure cost a pretty penny. So, though it is Milo's, he doesn't really use it much. It sits on the highest shelf in his room and usually Kevin and I will fill it with loose change now and then. Recently, we have started to let Milo put change into it. He thinks it is the best thing ever! The problem is, he wants to do it over and over, and he wants to hold the piggy bank. Since he is a toddler, he doesn't really understand the concept of "soft", and since he breaks even unbreakable things (i.e. board books) I don't want him handling the beautiful piggy bank.
I hate winter, I think especially now that I have a child, staying inside all day everyday gets old fast. There are some activities that we can go do, like visiting Cabela's, but some days it is hard to want to leave the house when it is freezing outside or there is 90 MPH winds. I have been trying to think of fun activities to do indoors. I wanted to make a make shift piggy bank and started to rack my brain with what I could use as "money". I could use real money, but since it is filthy and most likely would end up in his mouth, I wanted to find a better option.
Then a light bulb went off! A few years ago my parents moved and down sized their home. This meant they could no longer store our crap memorable stuff, so my Mom gave me boxes of journals and toys. I remembered in one of these bins along with my collection of Troll dolls, there was a container of pogs...PERFECT! Granted I think the majority of the pogs were Randall's, let's just keep it on the DL. I found a clean, empty, sour cream container, cut a slit in the top and voila! A "poggy bank." Clever name huh!?
Milo has really enjoyed putting all the pogs into the container, over and over again. He can only play with them supervised, I don't want him destroying any pogs or slammers, those things are classic! I really think they need to make a comeback, they were so fun to collect and play with! Look at some of these beauties!
OK, so the one with the weird homeless dude is a little strange, but some of them are so fun! The shiny pirate flag slammer is my favorite.

That's a great idea. Kids at this age just LOVE to put things into/pull things out of containers.
In order to get a shower this morning, I gave Aspen a box of tampons to play with. She was entertained through my entire shower and getting dressed/make up. Perfection!
